Use Geography If Applicable

According to Sarah Goliger, a contributor to HubSpot.com, one great way to get more specific keywords is to include geographic keywords with your standard list of keywords. While this won’t be applicable for all businesses, if you have a service area or operate a brick and mortar store, including your location within your keywords and phrases will not only help to set you apart from your competition, but it will also help to get the right people finding you by the use of your accurate and relevant keyword usage.

Be Aware of Negative Keywords

In the English language, there are many words or phrases that have more than one meaning. This idea is what propels the term “negative keywords.” According to Google Support, negative keywords are words that could seem to be related to your company or product but aren’t actually relevant at all. Without excluding certain negative keywords, you could lose a lot of relevancy points from both search engines and users because you don’t match their query like it appears you should. To combat against this, work on coming up with a list of negative keywords in order to know what to avoid and how to more clearly define your business.
