Business Creativity and Innovation – Two Necessary Business Imperatives

BY Rebecca | 23 January, 2021 | no comments

The ability to develop business creativity is often one of the most important elements in business. Creativity is the ability to see problems and take action to solve them. It is not an easy quality to cultivate. In fact, many people mistake creativity for arrogance or vanity; they do not understand that true creativity comes from a sincere desire to improve things, make things better, and solve problems.

Perhaps the greatest challenge to business creativity is not finding creative ideas. It is rather finding ways to execute those ideas. Finding and implementing good ideas take creativity. Furthermore, executing these ideas can only come from a broad range of disciplines including arts, sciences, and technology.

There is another challenge to business creativity that is even more subtle. Businesses must be careful not to confuse innovation with business creativity. A business that is filled with creativity will naturally tend to solve problems. However, there are distinct differences between the two.

Innovation refers to using new and original products or services. Business creativity, on the other hand, tends to be more concerned with problem-solving. In a world where problem-solving skills are being viewed as the hallmark of modern success, it is easy to see why innovation is seen as more vital than business creativity.

It is a fact that businesses are becoming less patient with innovation and tend to put things aside in favor of smoother processes. It is also true that managers play a key role in ensuring productivity. As a result, it is imperative that managers allow the creative process to flourish within a business. Creativity in business is important, but innovation is crucial. Creativity without innovation can quickly fade away.

Creativity combined with innovation is the best combination for business creativity. The best way to foster innovation and allow it to flourish within a business is to allow creative problem solving to be a regular part of the everyday routine. This is done by encouraging creativity and open communication within a team. The end result of allowing creative problem solving to thrive within a team is for managers to realize that innovation is just as important to business growth as creative problem solving.

The biggest benefit to business creativity comes from the fact that a company’s bottom line improves. Through innovation, people feel that they have a stake in the success of their organization. People feel like they are a part of something bigger than themselves and this creates a sense of ownership. When people feel ownership, they are willing to invest time and effort into their tasks and this leads to positive results, such as a boost in profits.

Creativity does not happen overnight and takes time to develop. While you may be born with creativity in your veins, it takes work and effort to develop your business creativity. However, if you work consistently and model the type of thinking that allows for innovation and problem solving, you will find that your innovative thinking will come more naturally and quickly. You will be able to harness creativity and apply it to your tasks effortlessly. Creativity has the ability to make the impossible possible and when you think creatively, you will be able to accomplish many things that would have seemed unfeasible a short time ago. Take advantage of your creativity and use it to lead your business into the future and beyond.

Innovation and problem solving are two essential components to the future growth of your business environment. In order for innovation to occur, creativity must be applied. A business environment is best suited for creativity when the people in the company are willing to accept and take risks. When there are no risks taken, the creative thinking that would be necessary to achieve innovations and to solve problems is not there. Creativity is only available when risk is taken and when the risk is understood, the individual can then accept and take ownership of their innovation.

Sometimes, innovation is simply not up to the task at hand and managers must take a back seat. They must allow the innovators to exhaust all avenues and the managers must create a structure where the employees can move forward without interference. Innovation is a necessary part of business imperatives and when managers do not allow innovation, productivity will suffer. The innovation process needs to be allowed to flow.

Many companies have started using organizational structures that foster creativity and innovation. Some managers argue that this type of structure encourages a change taking mentality within the company. It is widely believed that managers are becoming less engaged in the process of business imperatives and managers are taking on too many tasks. Research shows that a focus on organizational structure and processes has resulted in the creation of innovative ideas that have improved productivity. It has also shown that the managers who embrace these organizational practices are happier and more productive.
