Not Updating Regularly

You’ve worked on it for months, and you’ve finally finished your website. It looks beautiful, and you’re sure people will love it. So you don’t need to touch it again, right? Just let it sit there and do its thing. In reality, that would be a huge mistake. Your website needs constant attention from the moment you launch it. You need to watch what is and isn’t working and adjust things accordingly. Out of date information can be deadly too, so check everything regularly to ensure it’s all correct. Uploading new content often will help to boost your search engine rankings, and show visitors you haven’t abandoned the site.

Making It Hard to Contact You

If a visitor to your site is interested in contacting you, how many steps will they have to take to do it? Can they immediately see a phone number or email address at the top or bottom or the page? Or will they have to go hunting around your website to find the information they want? Don’t make it harder than it needs to be for people to get in touch. Your contact information should be clear, accessible and up to date.

Not Getting Professional Advice

When you first start building a website, don’t just jump right into it. It may look very easy to do it all yourself when you use a website builder. But there’s more to it than just choosing a template and inputting a few keywords. You can consult with a website design agency, or you can do some research to learn what you need to know. Just make sure you get a solid foundation of knowledge about web design best practices.

Bad Navigation

There’s nothing more frustrating than being unable to find what you’re looking for. Your visitors shouldn’t have to frantically click all over your site to find a product or information. Your navigation needs to be clear and simple, allowing people to find things with ease. On top of a well-designed menu, a search function will be helpful.

Too Much Going On

Don’t try to make your site do too much at once. It doesn’t need to be an all-singing, all-dancing, animated site with music and sound effects. Keep it simple and you’ll have more success than if you complicate it.

You can make a lot of mistakes in web design if you aren’t careful. But if you educate yourself, you’ll find it much easier to get things right.
